noris network, operator of high-security data centers in Nuremberg, Munich, and Hof, is supporting O2 Telefónica with a tailored colocation infrastructure. The goal of this strategic partnership is to meet the growing requirements of the mobile and broadband provider in terms of IT availability, flexibility, and security.
With 34.4 million mobile connections, O2 Telefónica is one of Germany’s leading network operators. The increasing importance of digital technologies such as smart cities, 5G applications, and connected energy systems requires a powerful, scalable, and highly secure IT infrastructure. To meet these challenges, O2 Telefónica has chosen the innovative colocation infrastructure of noris network.
Highest standards for a future-proof network
At the heart of the completed project is a 164-square-meter data center cage with 32 rack units, which has been precisely tailored to the business-critical requirements of O2 Telefónica. The IT infrastructure features redundant power supplies and network connections and meets important certification standards such as ISO 27001 and EN 50600. Colocation by noris network enables O2 Telefónica to scale network capacities flexibly and to implement new applications more quickly. Thanks to the high availability of the core network, data traffic is automatically rerouted in the event of server outages, minimizing downtime – a key advantage, particularly for modern 5G applications.
Remote hands: around-the-clock support
Another focus of the partnership is noris network’s remote hands service: as part of this service, technicians from noris network carry out maintenance and repair work in the data center when required, ensuring fast response times and minimal downtime. Thanks to the 24/7 availability of the remote hands services, the noris network service management team can ensure that O2 Telefónica receives competent support at any time and at short notice – whether for routine tasks or urgent emergencies.
Maximum security in the event of disasters
The carrier also placed the highest demands on the security of its core network. The noris network data center meets protection class VK4 of EN 50600, which defines particularly high standards for disaster protection. This is complemented by multi-level access controls, biometric authentication procedures, and continuous video surveillance.
“With noris network, we have a strong partner at our side who meets our high requirements for security, availability, and scalability,” says Stefan Paul, Site Support Engineer at Telefónica Germany. “The collaboration enables us to operate our IT infrastructure more efficiently while actively advancing digitalization in Germany.”
