Commitment to more sustainable mobility pays off: In cooperation with the certification company DEKRA France, Michelin has been awarding official certificates for CO₂ and resource savings for more sustainable tire management since mid-2024 in France, subsequently in other European countries, and since July 2025 in the DACH region. These certificates are granted to fleet customers that can demonstrate a convincing sustainability strategy. With its multiple-life concept, Michelin offers fleet customers the opportunity to significantly extend the mileage of their tires through the MICHELIN REMIX and REMIX 2 processes: a tire can be regrooved up to three times and retreaded twice. These processes save substantial amounts of CO₂ emissions and raw materials. In addition, retreading generates less waste and reduces the number of tires that need to be recycled. With Michelin’s multiple-life concept, the mileage of tires can be increased to up to 375 percent compared with tires that are not retreaded and regrooved (100 percent). With the new certificate, Michelin is providing another important impetus for more sustainable mobility. Together with its partners, the company demonstrates that climate protection and economic efficiency go hand in hand.
New standards for more sustainable mobility
The CO₂ certificate is validated by the globally recognized testing and certification company DEKRA and offers many advantages: Companies can use the certificate, for example, in tenders and as proof within EU sustainability reporting (CSRD). Michelin also supports its customers in communicating their achievements by providing materials for offline and online use. Michelin views the initiative as an important building block for greater environmental awareness in logistics. “We want our customers not only to succeed economically, but also to set benchmarks when it comes to sustainability,” says Philipp Ostbomk, Vice President B2B Northern Europe at Michelin. “The CO₂ certificate makes progress in sustainable tire management transparent – and strengthens trust.”
Triple direct impact
Advantages in tenders can make the decisive difference in the highly competitive logistics environment. For customers, partner companies, and the public, the certificate serves as proof of the environmental commitment of the awarded fleet customers. DEKRA audits independently, thereby ensuring transparency and credibility. Companies can document their progress in climate protection and set themselves apart from the competition. In addition, they also save solid cash – tires retreaded using the MICHELIN REMIX 2 process reduce costs per kilometer by up to 33 percent. Whether paper rolls for print shops, spare parts for the automotive industry, bulk goods, food, or chemical products: Michelin’s CO₂ certificate can deliver benefits for all companies in the transport sector. This is also confirmed by the first customers to receive Michelin’s CO₂ certificate:
“Thanks to the certificate, our commitment to sustainable tire management pays off twice over. Not only because we have to buy fewer new tires, but also because our customers can be sure that we are truly implementing sustainability.”
Stefan Annutsch, Service Manager at Werner Brüning GmbH in Ahlhorn
“Our sustainability goal is to be as CO₂-neutral as possible in the long term. The certificate proves that we are on the right track.”
Dario Kunfermann, Managing Director of Della Santa AG from Landquart, Switzerland
“We place great emphasis on taking sustainability aspects into account across our entire service portfolio in our processes – whether in the choice of tractor units or in Michelin’s multiple-life concept.”
Daniel Hirschinger, Fleet Manager at Ingo Dinges Transporte e.K. in Grünstadt
“We are committed to active environmental protection and are aware of our responsibility to the environment. In this respect, the CO₂ certificate is another important building block.”
Philipp Wittwer, Dispatcher at Wittwer Spedition & Logistik GmbH in Eschenlohe
